Roger is named on the St Ives War Memorial. This is the only known photo of him, found in his daughter's purse after her death. His family worked Burleigh Hill Farm. Roger emigrated to a remote part of Australia with his two brothers.
By 1916 he was part of the Austrlian Imperial Force fighting in France. His unit having used up all their ammunition defending their position in the face of overwhelming numbers, Roger died with all of his unit in an heroic fixed bayonet charge.
