St Ives to Cambridge steam train simulation

St Ives to Cambridge
This video simulates a steam train leaving St Ives and travelling to Cambridge, stopping at stations on the way. Some footage of countryside in between stations is excluded. Peter Swinson created the simulation. Below the video is a history of the St Ives to Cambridge railway line.

Built in the late 1840s, the line ran from St Ives to Chesterton Junction. There it met up with the Fen Line linking Cambridge to Kings Lynn.

Passenger numbers dropped in the 1950s as car transport gained popularity. Services survived the Beeching cuts, but closed October 1970. Freight continued along the line as Chivers of Histon transported jams and marmalades across the world until 1983. The line stayed open until 1992 to transport sand from Amalgamated Roadstone Corporation (ARC) at Fendrayton.

What remained of the line was converted into the Cambridge Guided Busway running from St Ives to Cambridge, which opened in August 2011.
